Ideally, your report should have a specific focus in relation to your topic: ? eWaste – a specific region impacted/a specific country which produces a lot of eWaste. E.g. China (Guiyu), Australia. Paragraph 1: Introduction ? Give general context about the topic (background information). The following questions can help you write this part: ? What is your topic? Define/explain. ? What are the sustainability issues surrounding your topic? Which pillars of sustainability are more relevant/affected? ? Where is your topic a problem? ? For whom is this a problem? Why? ? What is being done to resolve your topic and its related problems? ? Why does your topic have problems? How does it affect people locally/globally? ? Introduce the specific focus (what are you concentrating on in this report?) ? Thesis statement (last sentence of your introduction) which states the purpose of your report. The purpose is to provide a summary of the structure of the essay (problems/responses) After reading your introduction, the reader should have a general understanding of the topic, be aware of your focus, and understand the structure you will be following for the report. NOTE: The introduction is designed as a brief summary (1 paragraph) of the whole report. Sometimes it can be best to write it AFTER you have written the other sections of the report. Paragraph 2: Problem #1 ? Follow the TEEEL structure. ? Topic sentence should be the first sentence which states the first problem you are going to discuss in relation to your topic. ? Use data/expert opinion/specific examples to demonstrate that the problem actually exists. E.g. One problem caused by …………… is ……………….. This is a problem because……………………….. which is clearly linked to economic/social/environmental sustainability because………………………… For example…………………………………. This highlights………………………………………………………………………………………………… ? The following questions can help you write this part: ? How and why your topic has this problem locally and globally? ? How does this problem relate to sustainability issues? ? What are some of the consequences of this problem? ? Why do we need to respond?
